A massive open online course (MOOC) is a free Web-based distance learning program designed for the participation of large numbers of geographically dispersed students. The acronym MOC is pronounced with a long oo sound, to rhyme with kook rather than book. The Oxford online dictionary added the term (as “Mooc”) in August 2013.
There a a number of archaeology related MOOCs that the Denver Society has compiled on this page for easy access. Courses from a variety of top notch universities are available on this page, including the University of Arizona, the University of Glasgow, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and Harvard University to name but a few. Although MOOCs don’t always offer academic credits, they provide education that may enable certification, employment or further studies.
This page is on ongoing project and the Denver Society is always looking for more MOOCs to add, so if you come across one that we don’t list, please drop us a line and we will consider it for inclusion.
